Covid cases are on the rise; The Ministry of Health has suggested that states should carry out the genetic classification

Union Ministry of Health to carry out genetic classification of covid cases in the country. The proposal comes in the context of a growing number of Covid cases. Genetic sequencing of positive cases reported daily should be performed. Genetic sequencing is used to identify variants of the coronavirus. The Ministry has issued instructions to all states in this regard.

Countries such as China, the United States, Japan, Korea and Brazil have seen a sharp increase in Covid cases. In this case, the genetic sequencing of positive cases should be enhanced. These should be monitored by the Indian SARS-CoV2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). This way we can know if new variants are coming to the country. Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary of the Ministry of Health, says these will help to take public health measures if needed.
