At the north end of the park in the Harlem neighborhood, the “Gate of the Exonerated” has been dedicated. It is dedicated to five young people. The four blacks and a Latino were wrongfully convicted of raping a 28-year-old girl in 1989 and have spent years in prison. In 2002, DNA tests proved they were innocent. After the fact, future US President Donald Trump had called for the reintroduction of the death penalty in New York in several newspapers with full-page ads.
