A test to know the details of the biography of the “great strategist”.
Ostap Bender is perhaps one of the brightest and most colorful characters in Russian literature of the last century. The novels of Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov have become real classics, they are still loved and quoted by heart, since literally every phrase from “The Twelve Chairs” or “The Golden Calf” is an aphorism. However, few people know that the idea for the novel about the “great strategist” initially appeared not at all from Ilf and Petrov, but from Valentin Kataev, who was the latter’s older brother (Petrov is the pseudonym of Evgeny Kataev). However, the writer did not have time to bring his idea to life and threw it to his younger brother and his friend. It was assumed that the book would later be published under Kataev’s name, but Ilf and Petrov departed so much from the original idea and brought so much of their own into the plot that Kataev, of course, refused to claim the manuscript and invited the co-authors to publish the novel under their own authorship.
