Black ice danger in Dresden: many traffic problems, schools closed earlier

In the north of Dresden, a regular bus was unable to go any further on the mirror-smooth road this Monday afternoon. At the intersection of Hammerweg and Stauffenbergallee, the bus bound for the prison stalled and did not move.
Winter service arrived shortly after and helped by spreading salt on the road. Meanwhile, the police have secured the road. There were shorter traffic delays on the Hammerweg.
As early as 6 a.m., the Dresden transport company announced via Twitter that citywide restrictions were in place.
At 16:30, DVB reported that line 76, which normally runs from the prison to Pieschen S-Bahn station, will be canceled in both directions for the rest of the day. The culprit was black ice on Fabricestrasse, which has since been cleared.
A little later came the message that all lines in the Schönfelder Hochland would no longer be operational “until the next start of operations”.
There were delays on lines 80 and 81, as some buses also had to contend with the black ice. Line 80 now only runs from station Klotzsche to the Gorbitzer Straße stop.

The German weather service had issued an official severe weather warning for Monday. However, the dreaded traffic chaos has not (so far) materialized in Dresden.
“I’m surprised, but there were almost no accidents due to slippery roads. The roads may have been sufficiently salted beforehand,” a spokesman for the Saxon traffic alert service said in the afternoon. Suddeutsche Zeitung.
Dresdner’s winter service also focused on this, because sandblasting in the main road network was the top priority. Priority was given to elevations, bus lines and bridges.

The students of the Dresden Hoga schools in Niedersedlitz had to go home much earlier than usual on Monday. Here too the reason was the fear that many parents would no longer be able to pick up their children in the afternoon due to bad weather.
Lessons ended prematurely in other schools as well. Because although the main roads are reasonably clear, the rain continues and with it the potential danger.
Individual cultural institutions have also closed their doors. For example, Königstein Fortress tweeted that the mountain fortress would be closed this Monday “due to the risk of black ice”. Visitors also have to do without the “Christmas Garden”, as the Pillnitz castle park is not open either.
The weather shouldn’t improve until the evening so that everything can return to normal tomorrow.
