Ukraine, Russia | He was Putin’s man in eastern Ukraine, now he says all is lost

Igor Girkin was the leader of the Russian rebel forces in Ukraine in 2014 and is a former FSB agent. He was also sentenced to life imprisonment by the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Girkin is one of the men behind the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine in 2014. 298 people lost their lives in the crash. He is now aggressively attacking the Russian leadership and Vladimir Putin.

– Our authorities are absolutely not capable of handling such a crisis, he writes about his own Telegram-account.

Danish television 2 discussed the case first and writes that Girkin, who has over a million followers on social media, has so far escaped without prosecution for his critical actions.

– I’m in hell, I’m in the damn dark. I am not complaining or complaining now. When they break through the front line I take my rifle, put on a bulletproof vest and try to kill someone before I die, he wrote on Monday.

– They will kill me, but at least I will no longer feel ashamed, so you could say that then I will feel better, he writes further.

Ukraine, which has also offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to Girkin’s arrest, is accusing him of war crimes.

Girkin was a former colonel in the Russian FSB security service but is now one of Russia’s biggest war bloggers on social media.

– The Russian army and its high command have no chance of success in Ukraine, he writes at the end.
