Snowfall in Moscow not seen for 80 years

A record snowfall fell in Moscow this morning, reports the Tax.

According to the director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand the snow cover reached 34 centimeters, repeating the 1941 record.

Over the weekend, the Russian capital was hit by heavy snowfall, with rainfall exceeding 2.5 times the monthly average levels since early December.

Earlier, Vilfand predicted the Moscow region to expect sunny and freezing weather temperatures down to minus 13-16 degrees Celsius and almost no snow.

Around 13 flights were canceled and another 29 were delayed at Moscow airports due to bad weather. At the moment, the capital’s airports are operating normally.
