Kiev is ready for a new attack, even if it is launched by Moscow troops from Belarusian territory.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said protecting the country’s borders is a constant priority and that Kiev is ready for all possible attack scenarios by Russia and its allies; Belarus, which Kiev had warned could be drawn into the 10-month war.
Zelensky, in his evening video address to the Ukrainian people, also issued a new call for Western countries to provide Kiev with better air defense systems as one of the strongest measures to stop the Russian invasion.

On Monday morning (12/19/2022), air raid alarms sounded in Kiev and eastern Ukraine, where video of the explosions and responses from the air defense system were shared on social media.
“Securing our borders, both with Russia and Belarus, is our constant priority,” Zelensky said after a meeting with Ukraine’s top military command on Sunday.
“We are preparing all possible defense scenarios.”
Zelensky spoke on the eve of Putin’s visit to Belarus amid discussions about the possibility of new Russian attacks and whether new attacks could originate on Belarusian soil.
Officials in Kiev have been warning for months that Belarus could join Russian forces and serve as a springboard for a new offensive to form a second front in the war.
