Tensions are rising again on the Ukrainian front in view of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Belarus.

Russia’s state broadcaster WGTRK reported on the 18th local time that President Putin will make an “important announcement” this week, according to German news agency DPA.

WGTRK’s program host Pavel Zarubin said President Putin will chair an expanded Pentagon meeting this week and was awaiting a major announcement from the president, but declined to provide details.

DPA News has predicted that if President Putin is about to make a really big announcement, it could be about retooling Russia’s economic system into a wartime one.

On the 16th, Putin visited the military headquarters and broadcast the appearance to gather opinions from military commanders on the operation of the war in Ukraine.

On the 19th, President Putin will visit Minsk, the capital of Belarus, and hold a summit meeting with President Alexander Lukashenko.

“Securing Ukraine’s borders with Russia and Belarus has always been a top priority,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in response to Putin’s visit to Belarus.
