Unrest triggered by a political crisis has stranded several American tourists in Peru.
Hundreds of international travelers, including some Americans, were stranded this weekend in and around the historic city of Machu Picchu as the government scrambled to secure transportation to the nearest airport. Photos and testimonies suggest that the protesters had placed stones on the train tracks leading to the Inca citadel.
Lone traveler Brian Vega, a Miami-Dade fire captain, told NBC News he had visited the former mountain town but found himself trapped when the train lines to the airport shut down.
