The European champion from La Rochelle has a second win against Ulster

Zapping on daily sports The best videos

The second day of the European Cup was well managed by the Rochelais who won on the lawn of the Aviva Stadium against Ulster (36-29). A meeting easily conducted in the first period and a comfortable 29 point lead against the Irish with tries from Brice Dulin and Antoine Hastoy. The opener, in European form, scored 21 points on his foot and proves he really is the undisputed number 10 of the team.

In the second half things weren’t as easy as in the first one with a burst of pride from the Northern Irishman who almost got closer to Grégory Alldritt’s Frenchman. Despite Pierre Bourgarit’s try in the second half, the Rochelais did not register any offensive bonuses yet they were very close and within their reach.

Despite having validated a second win in as many games, the Maritimes will need to be careful playing a game in its entirety or risk being caught for the rest of the competition.

to summarise

Ronan O’Gara’s Stade Rochelais won 36-27 against Northern Ireland’s Ulster. An important but unconvinced victory for the Maritimes who conceded 4 tries in the second period. Pierre Bourgarit, Antoine Hastoy and Brice Dulin all scored.
