Our party will be absolutely ready for the next administrative elections. This was announced in a surprise briefing in Plovdiv by the co-president of “Let’s continue the change”, reported Kiril Petkov, journalist of “Maritsa”. He issued a statement alongside Asen Vasilev and academician Nikolay Denkov, who was appointed prime minister in the party’s bid to form a functioning government.
“The elections were very democratic, people are very motivated and we are seeing how one party will change Bulgaria and be structured in the most meaningful and democratic way with a big focus on local structures,” said Kiril Petkov.
“Let’s continue the change” he convened his bodies. What I can say is that party membership is growing at a fast pace. We accepted new members and focused on local structures,” said Kiril Petkov.
“Regional and municipal coordinators have already been selected in many places, which is part of our preparation for next year’s elections. The process will be completed in the next two months,” Asen Vasilev stressed.
Asked if he believes the PP cabinet will receive support, academician Denkov commented:
“We have presented our proposals with goals and objectives, we have a few days for the other parties to think and prepare those proposals for goals and objectives. Next week will be focused precisely on forming this list. We are not talking about composition at the time of the cabinet . Because it’s too soon. But there’s a potential list.”
According to Denkov, the probability of having a regular government is not particularly high, but such a possibility still exists”. Most of the parties do not want to go to elections, at least according to our feeling. We will talk to everyone who is ready. GERB could also be involved,” he also commented.
Denkov explained the negotiation procedure. “There are three stages: the first is the list of goals and tasks we want to work on together. The second stage is who the parties are and how they would be involved in this process. And the third stage is how exactly to shape this support. From these three stages, we are at the beginning of the first one,” summed up Denkov.
“The best option is to have rules,” Vassilev added.
” Acad. Denkov showed how on the first day, after the announcement of his appointment, he had already managed to invite all parties around the same table, without “Vazrazhdane”. And although most showed refusal at first, he said that the door for them remains open. He did what we have not been able to see in the previous 60 days,” emphasized Kiril Petkov.
When asked about GERB’s comments about him, Academician Denkov said he was not interested in them. “It’s important that we form a government. Everything else is noise in space,” he said.
When asked how the candidates for the lists will be nominated, Petkov said that what has been decided for all the vacant seats is to try to unite the democratic communities. “The most important thing for us will be that the mayors are informed, capable and respected in their populated areas,” Petkov stressed.
“The process itself will be in coordination with the DB. Most of the people will be nominated by the regional and municipal structures, which will propose them to the national structure,” Vassilev explained. Regarding the possibility of local coalitions, Vassilev said that for each municipality the situation is different and very specific.
“We would be happy to have a strong candidate from the democratic community of each city,” Petkov summed up.
