New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) paid tribute to creator Guillermo del Toro through an exhibit of the Mexican filmmaker’s work, primarily for his film “Pinocchio.”
The “MoMa” has prepared the exhibition “Guillermo del Toro: Crafting Pinocchio”, with exclusive works on the process of creating the most recent work of del Toro.
Guillermo del Toro: Crafting Pinocchio is a uniquely staged exhibition during the filming of the Mexican director’s first stop-motion animated film. The film presents an innovative version of Carlo Collodi’s children’s novel (1883), now set in the time of fascism in Italy.
This tribute is part of the Cinematographic Charity Gala 2022, on the carpet of which artists such as Óscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain participated, and videotaped messages from Alejandro González Iñarritu and Ewan McGregor, among others.
“No art form has influenced my life and work more than animation; and with no character in the story have I had such a personal and deep bond as with Pinocchio,” said acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro.
The exhibition concludes with an immersive installation that brings together exclusive video and poster projects from del Toro’s filmography, including works such as The Devil’s Backbone (2001), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), Pacific Rim (2013) , The del agua (2017) and El callejon de las almas perdidas (2021).
