If you hear the word Xiaomi, its budget smartphones will surely come to mind. However, this technology company is not only dedicated to the production of smartphones, tablets or smartwatches; He also presented other rather curious products. One of them was a humanoid robot they named CyberOne.
Revealed in August 2022, this android has attracted the attention of thousands of netizens because it bears a great resemblance to the robot presented by Tesla, Elon Musk’s company. According to their producers, CyberOne He is 1.77 meters tall and weighs about 52 kilos. Likewise, it can move at a speed of 3.6 kilometers per hour.
Well, the Asian brand has revealed that this project is still under development, so it will take several years before it is mass-produced and hits the market. However, they indicated that, if sold, the price of this humanoid robot could reach 86,000 euros.
Now you can play the drums
Through its YouTube channel, Xiaomi has shared a video in which CyberOne He seems to play a drum perfectly thanks to the fact that he has 21 movement points. Experts have assured IEEE Spectrum that they are already working on the second generation of this robot, which will have several improvements.
“We hope to further improve their ability to move and manipulate. At the hardware level, we plan to add more degrees of freedom, integrate self-developed dexterous hands, and add more sensors. More robust control algorithms for locomotion and vision will be developed in the software,” said Zeyu Ren, an engineer at Xiaomi’s robotics lab.
“There are three reasons why we are working on humanoid robots. The first is that we are seeing a huge decline in the workforce in China and around the world. We try to replace human labor with humanoid robots, although there is still a long way to go,” the specialist added to IEEE Spectrum.
“The second reason is that we believe humanoid robots are the most technically challenging robots of all shapes. By working on them we can use this technology to solve problems in others, such as quadrupedal robots, robotic arms or robots on wheels. The third is that we want to be the most advanced company in China,” she concluded.
