Dr Maysar Abu Al-Rish, assistant professor of aquaculture in the College of Marine Sciences, King Abdulaziz University, explained the difference between saltwater fish and aquaculture and which is better for human health.
Reasons to prefer farmed fish to sea fish
He added, as for the fish in the seas, they enter a mating phase if the temperature in the seas rises, like groupers, they mate during the month of March until July, after which the fish do not mate and not large numbers of fish are produced throughout the year.
He continued, if you are a fisherman, you will notice that the size of the fish is gradually decreasing, as they are not given the right and environment in which they grow up, as they are in farms.
Sea fish are very few
And he added, there is one very important thing, that there are very few fish in the seas, because the seas are one world and interconnected, and the fish do not live except on the coasts of continents and countries, but yes, they do not live in oceans and coral reefs are their homes, so in case of human intervention and overfishing, the fish migrate.
Sea fish of unknown origin
And he went on to say that the fish of the seas do not know their origin and we do not know the amount of harmful substances and heavy metals that are thrown into the sea, unlike the fish in the farmed environment. It affects human health.
