Taiwan is probably the most heavily attacked target of the hybrid warfare worldwide, Wu said in an interview with Tamedia newspapers published on Saturday. “I know that many European countries, including Switzerland, have suffered disinformation campaigns and hybrid wars.”
Taiwan and Switzerland shared the same democratic values and had extensive economic ties. China’s growing influence in the world at the expense of democracies should also affect Switzerland, Wu warned.
“Encourage Switzerland to behave more neutrally”
“Switzerland has long followed a policy of neutrality, and therefore I would encourage it to be a little more neutral between Taiwan and China instead of fighting on China’s side,” the foreign minister said. “After all, China is a very authoritarian country that threatens other countries. Siding with this authoritarian China may not be the best policy for your country.”
Official Switzerland sees Taiwan as part of China, as stated on the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA): “Switzerland does not recognize Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) as an independent state and therefore follows its One China policy”.
