The Latvia national under-18 hockey team suffered a defeat at the World Junior Challenge tournament in Canada on Friday and finished the competition in fifth place, failing to reach the semifinals.

Latvian hockey players lost to the US national team in the last group game with 0:9 (0:2, 0:3, 0:4).
Eric Polkamp stood out among the winners with a “hat trick”, while Coles Knuble was the most productive with five points (1+4).
The Latvia goal was defended by Aksels Ozols, who made 33 of 42 shots, while Kristiāns Mancs saved all 12 shots on goal for the USA national team.
It has already been reported that in the first match of the tournament the Latvian hockey players lost 1:3 to the team from Canada East, then in the second extra time they defeated their Swedish peers with 3:2, but in the third match they suffered a defeat against the team Canada West 0:10.
With two points from four games, the Latvia national team is in fifth place out of five teams. There is still one game left in the tournament between Sweden and Canada East, but Latvia can no longer overcome either team.
The top four teams will advance to the semifinals of the World Junior A Challenge tournament. The competition will be over for the fifth placed team. The final of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday.
