A bill aims to establish patient-caregiver relationships in hospitals

This bill, presented by Senator Bernard Jomier (PS), intends to establish, by inserting it in the Public Health Code, a provision that allows public health facilities, in their internal organization, to guarantee a minimum of assistance personnel in the services to guarantee the quality care and good working conditions, is indicated in the explanatory note.

This ratio would be used to determine the minimum number of nurses and day and night care assistants present and expected in full-time equivalent pay. It would be set up nationwide by the Higher Health Authority (HAS).

“The public hospital crisis no longer needs to be demonstrated. Among the urgent measures to be taken, it is essential to offer a dignified and well-kept work environment to healthcare professionals and to allow patient assistance in compliance with the quality and safety requirements of care.“, indicates the senator.

Today, according to several organizations, nearly 10% of nursing jobs are vacant.

The Senator also motivates the creation of these reports “scientific proof” And “scholarly works“who has “confirmed that insufficient medical presence with hospitalized patients leads to an increase in hospital mortality and psychological risks for caregivers“.
