But the most interesting thing about this asteroid is precisely the fact that it is associated with a meteor shower, something totally unexpected for this class of objects. What we imagine, in this case, is that 3200 Phaethon has lost all its volatile material, i.e. it has lost all its ice, leaving a rocky and dry nucleus, so it is an extinct comet.
