Environment Canada expects a trough moving up the US East Coast to bring snow beginning next night or Friday morning, for 24 hours, among other locations in Montreal, Montérégie, Gatineau, Estrie, Lanaudière and Laurentians.
In Estrie, total snow accumulations could reach 20 to 30 centimeters through Saturday morning.
The greater Montreal area is expected to receive six to eight inches of snow. The rainfall will intensify on Friday afternoon.
About fifteen centimeters should fall on the Laurentians and the Lanaudière region.
Environment Canada specifies that Mauricie and the Quebec region will also receive snow, but without specifying the extent.
The Outaouais region is expected to be the first to feel the effects of this storm, as a period of heavy snow is expected from 5am to 9am Friday morning in Gatineau, according to Environment Canada on Twitter.
On the side of Montreal and Sherbrooke, it is rather the return home that promises to be difficult. For the metropolis, the period of heavy snow is expected to occur between 17:00 and 22:00.
Winds are expected to remain moderate throughout Friday; there should therefore be no blowing snow. However, visibility may suddenly decrease in heavy snow.
The rapid accumulation of snow could make travel difficult.
The mercury will hover around zero degrees Celsius, making snow feel heavy and may mix with freezing rain.
Unusually, the thousands of delegates gathered at COP15, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, witnessed an information session on these weather conditions on Thursday, unprecedented for many.
