Electric car buyers will receive a sizable subsidy from the government. So far the grant amount is still being calculated but the estimate is around IDR 80 million. Apart from electric cars, buyers of hybrid cars also have the opportunity to receive a subsidy of IDR 40 million.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stressed that this incentive will be given to electric car buyers who have factories in Indonesia. The purpose of having a factory in Indonesia has not yet been explained further. But by implication, it applies to electric cars made in Indonesia.
The goal is none other than to get producers to invest or increase their investments in Indonesia. Furthermore, this subsidy is also reflected in countries with massive sales of electric cars.
“If we also look at China, it also provides incentives and the country that is in fact our competitor, Thailand, also provides incentives. Of course, every country has different policies, but the point is to provide incentives and in this context Indonesia wants to encourage the use of electric cars or motorcycles to run fast,” said Agus.
There are numerous models of this electric car in Indonesia, but only two are produced domestically. The two electric cars made in Indonesia are the Wuling Air ev and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Potential buyers of both receive quite a large subsidy because they are both made in Cikarang.
Meanwhile, beyond that, there are various electric car models that still have CBU status. It has not been explained further regarding the electric car with CBU status, whether or not its consumers will receive a subsidy of IDR 80 million.
