The Navarrese associations of the Camino de Santiago, who held their annual meeting this weekend in Puente la Reina, expressed their “particular enthusiasm” with the “backbone” project, called the Camino Francs Federation, which brings together five of the Navarrese associations , together with 13 counterparts from the rest of the autonomous communities of the French Way. The Urdax-Baztn Association has asked to be part of this platform as a collaborator.

A project that plans to carry out “important interventions” in the hostels during 2023, implement measures that “have a positive impact on the pilgrimage” and ask the administrations to distribute funds for the Camino de Santiago “the real beneficiaries are the pilgrimage and the Camino through a greater logic in its distribution,” the associations pointed out in a note.

After two years of absence from the annual meeting of all Navarrese associations on the Camino de Santiago due to the pandemic, Puente la Reina once again brought together all its representatives this weekend. An appointment to “share the problems that have occurred this year and coordinate the response to the challenges and daily circumstances of the Jacobean routes in the Foral Community”.

The meeting held at the Casa del Vánculo was supported by the reception of the Councilor for Culture of Puente la Reina, Itziar Imaz. The meeting also served to announce the birth of a new Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago, that of Sangesa, and the “relaunch and new impetus” that will be given to the Agrupación de la Ribera.

Likewise, the associations highlighted the work done to recover the historical route between Puente la Reina and Maeru, “due to its symbolic and exemplary character”, agreeing to recover, “where necessary and possible”, the original pilgrimage route.

It was agreed that the next meeting on the Camino de Santiago will take place in Roncesvalles, expected to take place on 21 October 2023. A theatrical visit was also organized for the companions and the event concluded with a fraternity lunch.
