Imprisonment for 4 Port Said Customs employees for a period of 153 years for each defendant in 51 corruption cases

Port Said Criminal Court, presided over by Counselor Jawdat Mikhael Qadis, President of the Court, and members of Counselor Tamer Mohamed Riad, Counselor Omar Ahmed Fathi and Counselor Ahmed Mohamed El Gamal, Court Chiefs and Secretaries: Tarek Okasha and Khaled Khudair today, Thursday, punished 4 Port Said Customs employees who were jailed for 3 years in 51 customs cases, known in the media as “caliber cases”, with a total of 153 years in prison for each of them, and 6 months in prison for two more in the same cases, for a total of almost 25 years, in the largest corruption case in the governorate’s customs.

The Public Prosecution accused the defendant of falsifying official documents, which consist of inspection forms and customs clearance permits for customs data for a number of containers arriving at the port of Port Said, which wasted millions of pounds to the state such as customs fees for these incoming goods.

The employees were also accused of having unlawfully obtained a public benefit from the activity of their work, and of having deliberately damaged the funds and interests of the organization in which they work, and of having used false documents by presenting them to the employee in charge of issuing the assets, and the Port Said Criminal Court heard the defendants and defense briefs until five o’clock today.

Port Said College Prosecution Prosecutor had referred the defendants to the Criminal Court to charge them with 51 proceedings on charges of forgery of official records, which sentenced 4 Port Said customs clerks to 3 years imprisonment in 51 customs proceedings, known in the media as “caliber cases”, with a total of 153 years’ imprisonment for each of them and 6 months’ imprisonment for two others in the same cases, for a total of almost 25 years.
