Emirates News Agency – ‘Ecowest’ exhibition and forum to start next January in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, December 15th / WAM / The EcoWaste Exhibition and Forum 2023 activities will be held during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, January 16-18, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, in organization and strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company, Tadweer.

The exhibition and forum program reviews the leading role of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in promoting the trend towards a circular economy, highlighting the role of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in this field and identifying the innovative methodology adopted by the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in sustainable waste management, as well as solutions designed to address the waste crisis. In the Middle East and North Africa region, which according to World Bank estimates is expected to double by about 255 million tonnes annually by 2050 in light of growing urbanisation.

Ecoquest highlights the sources of income and investment opportunities that the circular economy provides to emerging and existing companies in different sectors. The forum program includes keynotes, case studies and roundtables detailing innovative and effective methodologies to create new value from waste and the use of technology in waste management.

EcoQuest is also looking at landfill diversification strategies, waste-to-energy studies, the elimination of single-use plastics and the development of waste management technologies.

Ing. Ali Al Dhaheri, Acting General Manager of Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company ‘Tadweer’ said the EcoWaste Exhibition and Forum is a pioneering platform that brings together experts and specialists in the field of waste management and recycling from different countries of the world provide them with the opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge in this field, which contributes to achieving the best ways of waste management and investment in various sectors to achieve sustainable development.

He added that waste is a real challenge for the Middle East and North Africa region, but at the same time it represents an opportunity to take the lead and move towards a circular economy through which sustainable development can be achieved and increase job opportunities as well as reduce carbon emissions in the region.

He said, “Through our participation in EcoWest, we look forward to shedding light on the active role we play in this field and transferring the UAE experience to the world as well as exchanging experiences with the various parties participating at the exhibition on best practices and advanced technologies in the field of waste management and work together to bring about change.” The positive serves the future of humanity.

Abu Dhabi waste management company ‘Tadweer’ will showcase best practices in sustainability initiatives during the fair, including advanced treatment of hazardous waste, replacement of waste containers, launch of electronic auctions for sale of recyclable waste, support for residential and agricultural waste collection centers and recyclable waste. The company also features products made with recycled waste from demolition and construction waste, agricultural and animal waste.

Additionally, the company is organizing a panel discussion on the sidelines of “Ecowest” titled “Women in the Field of Sustainable Waste Management,” which highlights efforts to educate youth groups about the waste management industry and the importance of sustainable practices in waste management.

A series of memoranda of understanding and strategic agreements will be signed with some of the main local and international bodies in the sector in order to support “recycling” efforts and projects at the local level and others to support awareness and awareness efforts in the areas of environment, health and community and occupational safety and others to improve the level of services provided by the company, municipalities and stakeholders and partners.
