Winter still has Baden-Württemberg firmly in its grip. The result is hundreds of traffic accidents. The numerous injuries put a strain on the clinics.
Due to the wintry weather, caution on the roads in Baden-Württemberg is once again the order of the day this Thursday. According to a meteorologist at the German Meteorological Service in Stuttgart, there is a risk of black ice in large parts of the country: “Actually, you should be careful everywhere.”
There were multiple incidents across the country Thursday night due to snow and ice, a spokesman for the police situation center said. A lorry broke down on Autobahn 5 near Eichelberg and another lorry overturned on its side on the A8 near the Ulm interchange.
Numerous accidents also in Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart
A police spokesman in Ludwigsburg said some cars left the streets in the early hours of the morning and crashed into guard rails. Also in Stuttgart and Freiburg there were several weather incidents in the urban area at night.
Many people in Baden-Württemberg had already felt the consequences of the onset of winter on Wednesday: Snowfall and dangerous black ice caused hundreds of accidents with injuries and property damage across the country.
Too many injuries for clinics
In Freiburg, rescuers even set up a treatment center in the exhibition hall because the clinics were overcrowded due to the numerous accidents. The situation in Stuttgart is still relatively relaxed, Stefan Möbius, spokesman for the Stuttgart Clinic told t-online. However, numerous accident victims also had to be treated in the state capital.
According to forecasts, the weather situation should shift eastward during the day. However, a brief phase with high pressure influence is followed by the next low from the southwest on Friday night.
Experts also warned against treading on too thin layers of ice. You should also be careful when walking in the forest, as a branch may break under the weight of the snow.
