As of the close of the NYSE, the index was down 0.42%, while the index was down 0.61% and the index was down 0.76%.
The best performance of the session for the index was attributed to Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) stock, up 1.24% or 1.37 points for a closing price of 111.55. In second position, we find Boeing Co (NYSE:) gained 0.60% or 1.12 points to close at 188.25. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:) stock rounds out this top 3 list up 0.39% or 0.60 points for a session end at 152.84.
American Express Company (NYSE:) posted the worst performance of the session, shedding 2.16% or 3.41 points for a closing price of 154.11. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:) fell 2.25% or 8.31 points to close at 360.38. For its part, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) lost 1.64% or 0.47 points for a closing price of 28.26.
The best performers of the S&P 500 index go to Modern Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 5.78% to 208.95, Pfizer Inc (NYSE:) added 2.66% to 54.48 and Delta Air Lines Inc (NYSE:) added 2.79% to close at 34.31.
The worst performing values are Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:) down 16.38% to 328.34 at the close, Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ:) down 5.44% to 49.69 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:), down 5.38% to close at 247.83.
The best performance of the NASDAQ Composite goes to Icosavax Inc (NASDAQ:) gaining 112.38% to 8.92, Pharmaceutical Valley Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 up 104.69% to 0.51 and Scientific core Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 which gained 69.72% for a closing price of 0.25.
The worst performers are Netcapital Inc (NASDAQ:) down 36.82% to 1.39 at the close, Bit Brother Ltd (NASDAQ:) down 35.74% to 0.34 and Oncology Champions Inc (NASDAQ:), down 30.30% to close at 4.60.
The falling shares outnumbered the rising shares by 1,800 on the New York Stock Exchange at 1,248 and 124 flat; on the NASDAQ 2206 values have fallen and 1510 have risen, 197 have remained unchanged.
Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) shares rose to an all-time high, after gaining 1.24% or 1.37 points to a price of 111.55. Shares of Champions Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to a 52-week low after dropping 30.30% or 2.00 points at a price of 4.60.
The index, which measures the implied volatility of options on the S&P 500 index, fell 6.25% to 21.14.
On the other hand, gold for February delivery fell 0.35% or 6.35 points to $1.00 per troy ounce. Elsewhere, crude for January delivery rose 2.68% or 2.02 points to $77.41 a barrel, while Brent for February delivery gained 2.73 % or 2.20 points for a price of $82.88 a barrel.
EUR/USD rose 0.48% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.13% to 135.40.
The US dollar index fell 0.33% to 103.23.
