The Martian rover Perseverance has made the first sound recording of a dust devil, also known as the dust devil. This meteorological phenomenon, which also occurs on Earth, has already been seen on Mars, but its sound has never been recorded before.
The recording was done with the SuperCam microphone, one of the two microphones of Perseverance. The microphone used is part of the tree and the Super Cam tool. While recording the sound, the navigation camera took pictures, while the Analyzer of environmental dynamics of Mars pressure drop detected. The audio recording also includes bits of dust particles hitting the rover.
Dust devils aren’t very special to Mars itself. They have already been seen from space, and almost every rover on Mars has encountered them during operations on the red planet. The rovers Spirit and Opportunity also benefited greatly. They were able to extend their lifespan by several years because the dust devils would occasionally “sweep” their solar panels, so they could generate enough electricity again.
