As heavy snowfall of up to 17 cm or more fell overnight in North Chungcheong Province, traffic accidents and falls occurred one after another in various parts of the province.
According to the Cheongju Meteorological Bureau on the 14th, the previous day’s snow accumulated up to 17cm or more in the province. The largest snowfall in the province was 17.9 cm in Suanbo, Chungju. Jecheon Deoksan followed with 16.5cm and Danyang 12.2cm. Goesan 9.7cm, Jecheon 7.5cm, Cheongju 6.3cm, Jincheon 6.1cm, etc.
Most of the snow that fell from the previous day until dawn has now stopped. All heavy snow warnings issued in Chungbuk were lifted at 4:00am the same day. Currently, a cold snap warning has been issued for nine cities and counties, except for Okcheon and Yeongdong.
Cars going to work had to operate turtles as the roads turned into icy roads in freezing weather. Son Mo (35), who lives in Yongam-dong, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju-si, said, “The road was icy and cars could not speed up, so the 15-minute commute to work took more than 30 minutes. ” .
Between 5pm and 10am the previous day, there were 22 large and small traffic accidents, according to the fire brigade, and 19 people were taken to hospital. There were also 22 reports of vehicles being stopped and calling for help.
Seven people were injured in an hour-long fall accident at 8am, the rush hour.
Chungcheongbuk-do and 11 cities and counties have adopted the second phase of emergency measures since 20:00 on the previous day on the 13th and are maintaining an emergency monitoring system for colds. In addition, 650 people and 360 snowplows are mobilized to clear the snow.
Governor Kim Young-hwan held a special meeting on countermeasures for heavy snow and cold snap that day and said, “Since there are concerns about the safety incidents caused by ice, please focus on the snow removal work and to quickly remove snow from byways, village roads, and sidewalks.”
