BORDER GRID takes the escape room to the limit: the audience accompanies several people on their journey, makes decisions with them and crosses borders together; in space, time and mind. The interactive puzzle and experience space is formed from the life situations, stories and thought worlds of a number of interviewees from London, Mexico and Israel. The performance takes place in a room whose walls are made up of high definition video walls and can therefore dynamically change and transform with the story and interactions.

The title BORDER GRID, or a grid of borders, is the impetus and the artistic vision of the project: What if the borders that surround us, the conventions, the rules, the state borders, could not be dividing lines but connections?

BORDER GRID weaves such a web of life situations and stories of people that Tobias Hammerle has interviewed in the United States and Mexico, in Chile, Argentina, Great Britain and on the continent, in Israel and in Austria and Germany. From personal experiences we learn about boundaries, their artistic antitheses and how they create spaces for encounters. In this way, Border Grid also continues the documentary examination of borders, in which extra gold presents the computer games “Frontiers” and “From Darkness”, which deal with the effects of borders and wars from very different perspectives.
