Messi scored the penalty after Julian Alvarez was brought down by Croatian goalkeeper Livakovic in the box. In the 39th minute, a solo goal by Alvarez brings Argentina’s lead to 2.
Argentina face Croatia with two key changes. Lizardo Martínez and Marcus Aquinac were dropped from the eleven in play for the deciding game. They were replaced by Leandro Paredes and Taglifico. Argentina were forced to change their starting XI due to the yellow card tangle.
Angel Di Maria was also left out of the starting eleven, much to the disappointment of the fans. The Croatian team entered the semifinals without substitutions.
