Many trains delayed and canceled due to breakdowns on and off the tracks | inland

The Dutch rail passenger faced many delays and canceled trains on Tuesday. Due to various interruptions, there are nuisances around Amsterdam, The Hague, Eindhoven and Leiden. Now the delays are decreasing.

The outages also affected other parts of the country. For example, there were “logistical restrictions” between Utrecht and Eindhoven and Amersfoort and Deventer. “But outside the Randstad there is now almost robust rail service again,” reports ProRail.

According to NS, most malfunctions need to be fixed around 5:30pm. It is not yet known what the consequences for the evening rush hour on the railways will be.

According to ProRail, the problems are caused by disruptions “of various kinds” and busy traffic control posts. For example, a system that helps deal with malfunctions is now dealing with a malfunction itself.

This means that employees have to make all adjustments manually in case of malfunctions on the track. ProRail says it is working with “man and power” to get the trains going.

Due to the cold night, the freight trains were affected by frost on the overhead lines in the morning. This caused problems around Haarlem and Mariahoeve in The Hague. In Nijmegen, trains were delayed by runners. A collision caused nuisance around Leiden.
