ABU DHABI, December 13, WAM / The Archive and the National Library, as part of its pioneering project (Translations), are organizing a specialized conference entitled: “Approaches to Translation and Interpretation”, aimed at introducing the basics of translation in a friendly way to those who are moving towards this specialization, and at the same time honing the skills of professional translators and translators. .
The conference, presented by Prof. Siddig Johar, translation expert at the National Archives and Library, is characterized by extensive scientific material and simple, clear language. More often than not he relied on the communication of useful information on the bulletin board about some light-hearted jokes and events, and this helps to implant the information it contains in the memory of the public. He is trying to light the way for beginners and professional translators; He helps save them from falling into some of the dilemmas and traps of translation. As it stands “there is no master to translate”.
The conference, which will be organized in the “Liwa” room at the headquarters of the Archive and the National Library, to which an audience of interested in the events of translation, from inside and outside the Archive, has been invited, draws scientific material from the most important references and sources. As a starting point, it presents the public with a series of axioms and postulates in the profession of written translation and interpreting, starting with the importance of the translator who continues to learn, study and research in order to be able to face the new text, and the importance of seeking a convincing explanation – in front of his audience – for the vague ideas he is translating.
The lecture will shed light on some Arabic phrases that put translators in a quandary, such as the phrase “don’t break your mouth” and other eloquent or unfamiliar colloquialisms. It can cause a challenge for the translator, who should overcome it and not embarrass themselves.
The conclusion of the conference includes advice from the main axes, live examples and facts that the teacher has witnessed.
