Saudi foreign minister responds to the possibility of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has questioned whether reviving the Iran nuclear deal could prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Faisal bin Farhan told the World Policy Conference in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening that the relaunch of the Iranian nuclear deal should be a “starting point”, stressing that the indications for the current relaunch of the agreement “I’m not positive.”

The Saudi foreign minister added: “If an agreement is not reached, I think we will enter a very complex and dangerous period in our region that we must avoid, and even if an agreement is reached, this is not the end, and we must look over for a strong chord.” .

In response to a question about Iran obtaining nuclear weapons, the Saudi foreign minister said, “We have heard from the Iranians that they have no interest in obtaining nuclear weapons, but we need more guarantees.”

He added, “If Iran gets a nuclear weapon, it is not possible to expect what might happen. We are in a very dangerous area. We have seen great activity from Iran and we can see more dangerous activity.”

He went on to say, “Countries in the region will not want to be exposed to such a threat without reaction, so it can be expected that countries in the region will look into how to ensure their security.”
