The parents stated that their children have become addicted to Fortnite and, due to excessive passion for the game, have stopped eating, sleeping and bathing. According to the Guardians, Epic Games deliberately designed Fortnite to be addictive.

Judge Sylvain Lussier (Sylvain Lussier) agreed that the case is serious, called the lawsuit not “frivolous or manifestly unfounded” and recalled: “The harmful effects of tobacco were not recognized overnight”.

Lussier ruled that Quebecers who exhibit symptoms of addiction after playing Fortnite since September 1, 2017 can join the lawsuit, but disagrees with the lawsuit against Epic Games.

“The court finds that there is no evidence of the deliberate creation of an addictive game. But that doesn’t rule out the possibility that the game is addictive and that the developer/publisher may know about it.”Lussier has decided.

Epic Games in the comments BBC he said he would defend his case in court: parents have the ability to control the time their child spends in the game and the purchases made. The firm finds the lawsuit unfounded.

Fortnite attracts over 80 million monthly active players. In early December, the project received massive content updatewhich marked the beginning of the first season of the fourth chapter and the transfer of the game to Unreal Engine 5.1.
