Thiruvananthapuram: A pastoral letter was read on Sunday in the churches of the Latin archdiocese to convince the faithful of the reasons why Vizhinjam has ended the anti-port strike. Archbishop Latino of the Archdiocese Thomas J. Neto came directly and spoke to the believers.
The Archbishop spoke to the faithful after mass. Believers are of the opinion that the struggle, which lasted more than a hundred days, ended unilaterally without any definitive certainty. With this, the Archbishop came directly to Vizhiinjath, the epicenter of the struggle, and explained the matter.
The strike committee decided that priests should not directly lead further strikes. The fight will be led by the believers and the laity. The strike committee has also appointed a special committee to ensure that promises made by the government are kept.
The archbishop said the protest was halted against the backdrop of the unfortunate incidents in Vizhinja for two consecutive days and if the assurances given by the government are not met, the protest will resume.
Fear of municipal conflicts in the area led to an end to the strike. He informed that there were some issues regarding the future of the people of Vizhinja and the church leadership took them into consideration. The assurances given by the government convinced the faithful through the pastoral letter.
