Liverpool fell within reach Olympic Lyon in a test match. The Reds gave up 1-3 despite winning earlier.
Liverpool entered the friendly tournament Dubai Super Cup 2022 against Lyon. The duel took place at Al Maktoum Stadium, UAE on Sunday (12/11/2022) evening WIB.
Juergen Klopp’s side opened the scoring after the game had lasted just a minute. Fabio Carvalho grabbed the ball from Mohamed Salah’s shot which was cleared by Anthony Lopes.
Liverpool had a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 14th minute. The Reds were awarded a penalty after a foul on Roberto Firmino in the prohibited area.
Mohamed Salah, who advanced as Liverpool’s penalty taker, failed to do the job perfectly. The shot of the ball was cleared by Lopes.
Lyon equalized four minutes before the break. Alexandre Lacazette burst into the Liverpool goal, taking advantage of Andrew Robertson’s mistake with Caoimhin Kelleher. The first half finished 1-1.
Liverpool replaced most of their players in the second half. Lyon turned things around to make it 2-1 thanks to Bradley Barcola’s goal from a 64th-minute substitute.
Lyon again broke into the Liverpool goal in the 83rd minute. Lacazette scores twice with his shot, taking advantage of the ball thrown from Adrian’s feet.
Liverpool tried to play down the situation in the remaining time, but their efforts yielded no results. The match ended 3-1 for Lyon.
The match continued with a bonus penalty shoot-out. Lyon won round of five 5-3 after Lopes saved the ball from the Reds’ second executor, Calvin Ramsay.
