This year Lee Towers received the TrosKompas Oeuvre Award. The singer received the award on Saturday evening on stage at the Muziekfeest van het Jaar from singer Anita Meyer.
“Lee Towers has always remained the man on the street. The common man who managed to live the American dream,” the judging panel ruled. “He is the fitter of the Boele construction site who has become a singer and showman pur sang”.
The jury also called the 76-year-old singer a pioneer. Everything “The Voice of Rotterdam” touches turns to gold, even his microphone, according to the judging panel.
The TrosKompas Oeuvre Award was awarded for the first time in 2010. Then Peter Koelewijn received the award. George Baker, Jan Smit, Rob de Nijs, Pierre Kartner, René Froger, Willeke Alberti and Gerard Joling also won later.
