Plettner was bitten in August 2018, after he and his then-girlfriend cared for a cat with kittens from an animal shelter in Denmark.
When he was about to lift the mother cat to move her, he was bitten on the finger.
15 operations
The bite meant Plettner contracted a number of infections and had to go to hospital where he underwent 15 operations. The Danes write it television 2.
The family called the family doctor the day Plettner was bitten, but were told to see a doctor the next day.
Cat mutilated and killed
On October 10, he died, aged 33.
– The cat had bitten a blood vessel, and when a cat bites and pulls the tooth out, the hole closes up and the bacteria spreads, Plettner’s mother, Anni Thyme, told Danish TV 2.
The family warns
Despite a series of operations, the index finger had to be amputated. But the infections continued.
– His immune system was weakened. He also developed pneumonia, gout and diabetes, Thyme says.
The family is now warning others and have made it clear that you must seek immediate medical attention if you are bitten by an animal.
– Leave immediately, says Kriegbaum’s ex-wife Desirée Plettner.
