Samsung Galaxy S22 becomes the fastest hacked flagship phone in just 55 seconds

Samsung’s flagship model, the Samsung Galaxy S22, one of the leaders in the smartphone market, was hacked in just 55 seconds. This could be a record for a flagship smartphone.

At the Pwn2Own event held in Toronto, Canada, many attendees battled with time and with each other to uncover vulnerabilities in various devices. One of the losers in this battle is the Samsung Galaxy S22.

Pentest Limited researchers have also discovered a zero-day vulnerability in the Galaxy S22. So while the Pentest team went home with 5 points and a $25k prize pool, attention also turned to Samsung.

Galaxy S22 completed in minutes

According to reports from the event, the Pentest team managed to hack the device in just 55 seconds with an Inappropriate Input Validation attack against the Galaxy S22. In this hacking competition organized by the Zero Day Initiative, teams using Zero Day vulnerabilities also win prizes.

In addition, all Galaxy S22 smartphones used during the event have been updated to the latest Android 13 operating system. This update has been approved by Samsung. According to competition rules, the device must have the latest operating system and approved applications.

Another important aspect of the Samsung Galaxy S22 is that the phone was hacked in four different ways during the competition. On the first day, 2 different zero-day vulnerabilities were discovered. While the STAR Labs team won a $50,000 prize thanks to a deficit found, a participant named Chim was able to earn $25,000 thanks to a deficit found.
