The film ‘Triangle of Sadness’ triumphs at the ceremony of the European Film Academy

Eastlund himself also received awards for best director and screenwriter, while Croatian-Danish actor Zlatko Buričs was awarded the best actor statuette for his work in the film.

The events of “Sad Triangle” take place on an exclusive luxury cruise ship. However, what is supposed to be instagrammable turns out to be hellish. A storm begins. the yacht sinks and those lucky enough to escape end up on an uninhabited island, the social hierarchy in their company is turned upside down. The satirical film has already received the “Golden Palm Branch” at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film “Mariupolis 2” by Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaraviča was recognized as the best documentary film in Europe, who died during the filming of this work in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol besieged by the Russian occupiers in early April this year. The director’s daughter came to the ceremony in Reykjavík and she too took to the stage to receive the award.

It has already been reported that this year the Latvian director Signe Baumane, who works in the USA, was also nominated for the European Film Academy Award and her animated film – the musical for adults “My Marriage Project”. However, she lost to No Dogs Or Italians Allowed, a co-production between France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and Portugal, in the Best European Animated Film category.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to internationally acclaimed German actress, director and screenwriter Margarete von Trott, while the Global Achievement Award went to Palestinian writer, director, actor and producer Elijah Suleiman.

It has already been reported that this year the awards ceremony of the European Film Academy will be held in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, in the concert hall “Harpa”. This year, the European Film Academy Awards were awarded for the 35th time.

The European Film Academy Award was established in 1988. This year, 4,400 members of the European Film Academy, including film professionals from Latvia, vote for the winners. Previously, in 1990, documentary filmmaker Ivars Seleckis received the award from the European Film Academy of Latvia for the film “Šķerssiela”.
