The Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG) has announced the construction work on the Würzburg-Gemünden section between 12 September and 15 December 2023. It will be built in several sections. The regional express lines RE54 and RE55 (Main-Spessart-Express) will then be diverted to the high-speed line Würzburg-Lohr. At the same time, a Lohr-Gemünden feeder line will be set up. The Gemünden-Karlstadt section will be completely closed from 27 October to 6 November 2023.
