Texas school superintendent found dead under investigation for hidden recording device


Lubbock, Texas – West Texas school superintendent who was under investigation for invasive visual recording shot and killed himself.

According to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, the deputies were called to the 8600 block of North FM 2378, west of Shallowwater, at approximately 10:15 a.m. Friday.

“Deputies have located Joshua Neil Goen, 43, who died of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the LCSO said.

Goen was a graduate of Shallowwater High School and had family ties to the area. Goen was named Seagraves ISD Superintendent in 2017. Previously, he was the principal of Seagraves High School.

Goen was arrested on Monday. He was able to post bail and be released from prison while the case was pending.

An arrest warrant accused him of leaving a recording device in the visitors’ locker room before a basketball game in mid-November.
