Cuban vaccines against COVID-19 awarded as leader of the year

Cuban COVID-19 vaccines Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus were awarded the Grand Prize of the Leader of the Year international trade event in Belarus, the Finlay Vaccine Institute reported on Twitter.

The prize was awarded on the occasion of the contribution of these vaccines to the global fight against COVID-19, added the message, which thanks and congratulates all those who contributed to the achievement of this recognition.

Santiago Pérez, Cuban ambassador to Belarus, stressed that the award recognizes the social impact of the Antillean drug, which has safety and immunogenicity results in the pediatric population, adults and the elderly, according to a report by the Prensa Latina agency.

Soberana 02 is the first and only conjugate vaccine to be licensed for emergency use against COVID-19, specifically designed for pediatric populations.

Meanwhile, Soberana Plus is the first booster against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of the disease, officially authorized in the world for convalescent adults and children.

Both vaccines obtained approval for their use in Belarus on July 27 from the Center of Expertise and Experimentation of the Ministry of Health of that country, thus becoming the first in Europe to register the drug.

The International Business Leader of the Year award on the territory of Belarus is awarded by decision of an expert council consisting of representatives of business communities, ministries, relevant departments and public organizations.
