“In the summer of 2018, as an executive of a company, I was invited to a think about money, or a dinner where you philosophize with other CEOs about topics like: what is the value of work to your employees,” says Rob. “It was difficult for me to keep my focus on the speakers. Astrid sat at the head of the table as moderator and I sat diagonally across from her.”
It’s hard for him not to look at Astrid. “As the discussion unfolded across the table, I continued to watch her mesmerized. I was struck by her beauty, her charm and eloquence, and intrigued by the notes of hers that she had scattered on little notes of hers in front of she.”
Then the flame hit the pan. “At one point we looked straight into each other’s eyes. I felt captured, but I didn’t look away. That gaze only lasted a few seconds, but it didn’t leave either of us impassive.”
The next day, Rob takes the plunge. “The next morning I sent her a message via LinkedIn, to which she responded very well within a few hours. After exchanging phone numbers and writing to each other for a long time, it was a date in a wine bar in Amsterdam where you could even eat it.”
Although Rob feels watched during the date, Astrid decides to take matters into her own hands. “Once outside, Astrid didn’t let anything stop her and she kissed me. I was still thinking: oh, here in the middle of the street? Although of course I gladly gave in. That evening I neatly left her at home.”
Four years later, in May of this year, the two got married. “After the ceremony, Astrid spoke to me and the guests. She did it with humor, feeling and a tear. When I saw the gleam of emotion in those beautiful dark eyes, I also felt full. In all my body I felt how much I love you.”
