The Dutch economy will probably barely grow next year. The energy cap cannot prevent living from getting more expensive across the board in 2023 as well.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently conducted research on the Netherlands and presented the first results on Friday. Researchers believe the Dutch economy will grow by 4.2% this year, but only 0.6% next year.
According to the institute, life has become 11.8% more expensive this year. In 2023, the price level is likely to rise another 4.2%.
The IMF points out that government support measures mitigate the impact of high energy prices, but that the energy price ceiling also makes it more difficult to bring inflation down.
That’s because the price cap isn’t just aimed at households and businesses that really need help. Every Dutchman benefits. This is how the government drives consumption, says the IMF. This can actually drive prices up even more.
