Twitter allegedly “blacklisted” several right-wing users; limited their visibility

This Thursday, December 9, the second part of the ‘Twitter Files’ was published, shared by independent journalist Bari Weiss, on how the popular social network has profiled various conservative personalities.

According to the communicator, the tech company has blacklisted several right-wing users and used a so-called “shadow ban” to remove the visibility of their trills, preventing them from having a great range.

“New Investigation Reveals Twitter Employees Create Blacklists, stop disliked tweets from trending and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts” initially stated.

The journalist likewise assured that these documents were created completely in secrecy. He also used the moment to point out that the company was wrong to promote this type of censorship.

Host Dan Bongino, Stanford University anti-covid lockdown advocate Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, and right-wing activist Charlie Kirk were some of the “blacklisted” characters.

“Everything was done in secret and without informing users. All the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers, has been diverted with these kinds of methods.” Weiss added.

Then he specified: “Take, for example, Stanford’s Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, who argued that Covid lockdowns would harm children. Twitter secretly placed him on a “trending blacklist,” which prevented his tweets from trending. Twitter also set conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s account to “Do Not Amplify”.

It is worth mentioning that the North American company has repeatedly stated that it has never used this type of practice to limit the visibility of different users.

Elon Musk defends his work

After Kanye West’s posts on Twitter, which ended with his profile being blocked for sending inappropriate messages and violating the rules of the platform, Elon Musk has come out to defend his position against this action taken.

Many have criticized Musk for not having guidelines governing comments that go further and can be offensive to users, as French President Emmanuel Macron did a few days ago. “It is an important question. What I’m asking for is exactly the opposite: more regulation,” the president said in statements to the chain ABC, about an official visit he made to the United States.

However, the new owner of Twitter has defended his job at the head of the popular digital platform. “You know Twitter is correct when extremists from far right and far left are upset at the same time! Twitter aims to serve the 80% of downtown people who want to learn, laugh, and engage in reasonable debate.” he wrote on his official profile.

The social network suspended Kanye West’s account after the American rapper posted an image featuring an intertwined swastika and a Star of David. Likewise, he has repeatedly stated that he admires Adolf Hitler.
