SAN JOSE, Calif. — Elias Pettersson played heroes in overtime as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the San Jose Sharks 6-5 Wednesday night.
After Spencer Martin closed the door on two shots, the Canucks went two-for-one and Andrei Kuzmenko handed the puck to Pettersson, who hit the target with a good wrist shot.
Kuzmenko capitalized on a power play to send the game into overtime with a goal with 3:53 left.
Dakota Joshua scored twice for the Canucks while Nils Hoglander and Ilya Mikheyev each moved the ropes once.
Martin stopped 34 of 39 shots aimed at him.
Nick Bonino, Logan Couture, Timo Meier, Jonah Gadjovich and Kevin Labanc have all threaded the needle for the Sharks.
Kaapo Kahkonen started the game for the Sharks and allowed four goals on 19 shots. In relief, Eetu Makiniemi gave up twice on nine shots.
