Has Brazil never lost against Croatia? Let’s hope this is the first

Doha

Croatia never won a fight Brazil on the international scene. Ahead of the meeting of the two countries in the quarter-finals World Cup 2022, Luca Modric hoping to change that bad record.

Throughout history, Croatia has faced Brazil four times, two of them at the World Cup, neither of which they managed to win. Selecao won three times, and one other game ended in a draw.

That’s why when the two teams meet again in Qatar, Brazil is the more favourites. Furthermore, the public know that Tite’s team has a more flashy formation than Croatia.

Even so, Croatia are confident of progressing to the semi-finals. Zlatko Dalic’s team has good capital and is not beaten from the group stage. They also conceded two goals, just like Brazil.

“We have met Brazil several times and we have never won against them. I hope we can change this tradition,” Modric said before the match, quoted by Reuters.

“The most important match of the World Cup is ahead of us. They are among the favourites, they always have been, but what they showed during the tournament makes them deserve to be called among the favourites.”

“We have to show our best performance and from there we have the chance to win. We can’t be satisfied with just reaching the quarter-finals,” explained the Croatian captain.

Of Croatia’s three defeats against Brazil, Modric has always been there. He played during a 1-3 defeat at the 2014 World Cup and fell 0-2 in a friendly before the 2018 World Cup, and sat on the bench when Vatreni were beaten 0-1 at the 2006 World Cup.

Another match was in 2005 when Croatia managed to stop Brazil 1-1 in a friendly match. Modric at that time had yet to make his debut for the national team.

Croatia vs Brazil will take place at Education City Stadium, Friday (9/12) at 22.00 WIB. Can Croatia rewrite history? Or is it Brazil that will progress to the semi-finals?
