Atari announces re-release of 1982 Waveshooter Akka Arrh – Gaming – News

Atari has announced the re-release of Akka Arrh. It’s a wave shooter from 1982. The game was adapted by developer Jeff Minter, who gave it a psychedelic twist. Akka Arrh will be released in early 2023 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox Series, Switch and Atari VCS.

In Akka Arrh, players control a battle tower called a Sentinel, which must defend its territory against waves of attacks from outside. The game contains 50 levels and has been given a psychedelic and visually colorful theme thanks to Jeff Minter. Atari call the game “a fever dream in the best possible way” and also offers a setting to reduce the visual effects a bit.

The game was originally intended to be released in 1982, but was deemed too difficult by Atari’s test audience that year. The American company has therefore decided not to release the game. There were already three by that time game cabinets released with the game.
