Long Island mom searches for her son’s killer – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – Will a grieving mother’s desperate plea solve a murder case on Long Island? Suffolk County Police intend to try.

Homicide detectives are expected to join Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison and Marie Rosental on Wednesday in a press conference in an effort to generate possible new leads into the death of son Danie Philistin in 2021.

Philistin was at a house party Avenue Gordon in West Babylon when he was fatally shot in the suburbs one night in July 2021. The New Jersey resident was 29 years old.

No arrests were made in this case. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. It’s a “quick cash reward,” meaning it’s paid within seven days of arrest.

More details on the case, including video evidence, are expected to be released later Wednesday.

According to his filed obituary, Philistin was born in Brooklyn and educated in the public schools of New York City. He attended PS 152 elementary school and Ditmas IS 62 middle school, then graduated from New Utrecht High School in June 2011. He received a bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2019 from Alfred State University.

A standout football player during his Brooklyn public school days, Philistin was remembered as a leader on and off the field, according to The Daily Voice, and was much mourned after his death.
