Losing streaks starting and ending in 2022; India’s third series loss this year
2022 has turned out to be one of the worst years in the Indian cricket calendar, facing defeat in several matches including defeat in the Asian Cup and a humiliating loss to England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup .
While there have been series victories with various teams this year, none of them can top this loss.
India started with a defeat in the first series of 2022. That defeat came during India’s tour of South Africa. India lost all three matches of the ODI series.
On 26 December 2021, the first test match of India’s tour was held in South Africa. After winning the first test, India lost the second and third tests and lost the series.
India entered the first ODI at Boland Park on 19 January to overcome their Test series defeat. Batting first, the Proteas scored 296 runs. In reply, India’s struggle with batting ended at 265 and the Proteas won by 31 runs.
India lost the second match by seven wickets and lost the third match by four runs. With this, South Africa won the three ODI series 3-0.
India continued its streak by winning many series and tours. But New Zealand ended that surge in November.
While both games of the three-game series were washed out by rain, New Zealand won the series 1-0 with the lead to win game one of the series.
Subsequently, India flew to Bangladesh for their final tour in 2022. But even there bad luck didn’t help India.
By the end of the first two matches of the three match series, India had lost the series against the Bengal Tigers.
India is trying to save face by winning at least the third game. The dead rubber match will be held in Sher-e-Bangla, Mirpur on 10th December.
